Each year more than two million spectators attend airshows and flying displays in Britain. Some 250 airshows take each year, making it one of Britain's most popular leisure activities. Flying displays by civil and military aircraft, from the earliest years of aviation in Britain to the modern day, delight the crowds. The Supermarine Spitfire and Hawker Hurricane fighters; the Avro Lancaster and Avro Vulcan bombers; along with the Red Arrows, the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, flying the BAE Systems Hawk aircraft, are the undoubted stars of the airshow season. This website is a pictorial tribute to these aircraft. Click on an aircraft silhouette below for an illustrated profile of each of these British 'aviation icons'.
