Concorde is an iconic aircraft. Her image evokes so many superlatives; her design is unique and her features are unmistakably Concorde. In retirement, the aircraft still generates great affection from her pilots and crew; the engineers who designed, built and maintained her; former passengers, enthusiasts and the general public; young and old alike.

In her development phase Concorde pushed the boundaries of science, technology and the designers on both sides of the channel, and during her twenty-seven years of service she epitomised the ultimate way to fly.

Throughout her commerical service she continued to represent the pinnacle of aircraft design in terms of aerodynamics and engineering, able to cross the North Atlantic in three and-a-half hours, where a sub-sonic aircraft would take seven hours.

She was the only successful commercial aircraft in the world to fly supersonic - faster than the speed of sound - and flew for thirty-four years in total, of those twenty-seven years in commercial service with Air France and British Airways. The day Concorde retired from service commercial air travel regressed thirty years; Concorde has not been superseded and still represents the ultimate passenger aircraft.
